Jola Allena Monska O’Neil, 80, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church with Pastor Dale Snyder officiating. The family will receive friends at a visitation following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Jola was born on April 3, 1937, in Decatur, Illinois, to John and Thelma French Monska. She met Richard T. “Dick” O’Neil at a U.S.O. dance in Rantoul, Illinois, and they were later married in Allenville, Illinois, on September 28, 1957. At the age of 50, and after she and Dick raised their three sons, Jola enrolled at Midwestern State University, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then worked as a licensed social worker until her retirement in 2015.
Jola had a love for antiques, many of which were family heirlooms. She spent many hours researching and documenting her family ancestry. Jola was considered very independent and self-reliant. After Richard’s passing in 2001, she made several overseas trips. She also joined the local chapter of the Christian Motorcyclists Association and participated in many rides including at least two solo trips to Illinois and Florida to see family. She was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Jola was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, David A. Monska and Kenneth J. Monska; step-father, Henry E. Vaughn; and husband, Richard T. O’Neil.
She is survived by her sons, Tom O’Neil and wife, Belinda; David O’Neil and wife, Corinne; and Mitch O’Neil and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Ben O’Neil and wife, Dana; Melody Crawford and husband, T. J.; Robert O’Neil, Kaleb O’Neil, Ariel O’Neil, Matthew O’Neil and Connor O’Neil; and two great-grandsons, Jack and Michael Crawford.
The family wishes to express its thanks to the staff at Hospice of Wichita Falls for the loving care shown to their mother during her final days.
