Larry Joe Darnell, 81, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017, at Lunnís Chapel with Chaplain Lydia Pellikan officiating. Visitation will be held following the memorial service. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
A son of the late Gladys (Drake) and Lawrence Darnell, Larry was born on April 7, 1936, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He married Anna Jo McGee on May 27, 1956 and they were blessed with 61 years together.
Larry graduated from Paulís Valley High School, Paulís Valley, Oklahoma in 1954 and East Central University, Ada, Oklahoma in 1958. He worked as an oil field sales engineer for Lane Wells and Dresser Atlas from 1958 to 1969, with assignments in Duncan, Oklahoma, Fort Morgan, Colorado, Shreveport & New Orleans, Louisiana, and Wichita Falls, Texas. In 1969, Larry and Anna Jo purchased Zenoís Pizza. They owned and managed Zenoís and a catering business until retirement in 2006.
Larry was an avid sports participant and fan. He played football and baseball in college, and minor league baseball for the Cincinnati Reds during the summer of 1958. Hobbies included softball, golf and fishing and coaching little league football.
Along with his parents, Larry was also preceded in death by his sister Norma Jean Grindel.
Larry is survived by his loving wife , Anna Jo Darnell; son, Kevin Darnell and wife Jean of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter, Kim Trout and husband Lance of Joshua, TX; grandchildren, Shane Darnell of Wichita Falls, Kaitlin Darnell and Chase Darnell of Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, Chelsea Foster of Burleson, TX, Keaton Foster of Fort Worth, TX, Weston Foster of Joshua, TX, McKayla Nelon and husband Travis of College Station, TX, Bailea Gerlikowski of Keller, TX, and Katherine Trout of Joshua, TX.
