Michael John Bruckner, 75, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018.
Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2018, in Lunn’s Chapel with Rev. Tom Medley officiating. Interment will follow in Lancaster, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
A son of the late Virginia (Shank) and Edward John Bruckner, Michael was born on October 11, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois. Michael graduated from Lancaster High School in 1960, and the University of Texas at Arlington in 1968 with a BBA in Finance. He served in the U.S. Army Air Defense Artilery from 1961-1964 in Arkansas, California, and Germany. He moved from Chicago to Lancaster, TX in 1948. He first married Kala Sue Boyington in 1966, having two children, Jon C. Bruckner and Jinger K. Bruckner. They were divorced in 1975. He married Susan R. Swann on August 6, 1981, and gained two step-children Karen S. Collins and R. Craig Swann.
Mike retired as Wichita County Treasurer in 2004. His prior working career was in the fields of accounting and investments. He served on church, Chamber of Commerce, and American Heart Association Boards, and as past President of Burkburnett Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Mineola, Texas, and N. Central Texas Chapter of Sons of the American Revolution. He also served as Alderman in Mineola, Texas.
Mike enjoyed playing trumpet and cornet in the Wichita Falls Community Band, Brian Frances Big Band, and the F & J Music Store “This Old Man Band”. He enjoyed singing in church choirs in Lancaster, Burkburnett, and Wichita Falls over the years. He loved to camp in State Parks with his wife, Susan, and meet family and friends there. He participated in athletics until slowed by a muscle disease since 1994. Prior to this, he ran twelve 26.2 mile marathons, several triathlons, and a 121 mile bike race from the Texas Capitol to College Station.
Along with his parents Michael was also preceded in death by his brother, David Bruckner.
He is survived by his loving wife Susan Bruckner; son Jon Bruckner and wife Kandie, daughter Jinger Barbee and husband Bo; his step-children, Karen and Craig; five grandchildren, Bruce Michael Bruckner, Jessica Payne and fiance Jon Alsup, Austin Payne, Emily Collins, and Maya Barbee.
