Eleanor Polly Robbins Jones, age 90, of Wichita Falls, died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at her home. A memorial service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday, June 08, 2018 at Floral Heights United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Yeager, pastor, officiating. Visitation with the family will follow in the foyer of the church after the service. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Lunnís Colonial Funeral Home.
Polly was born March 16, 1928, in Dallas, TX and moved to Wichita Falls as a small child in 1935. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1944, then at the age of 16 attended Randolph-Macon Womanís College in Lynchburg, Virginia for one year, later graduating from Southern Methodist University in Dallas in 1948. While at S.M.U., she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She married Lester Frank Jones, a native Wichitan, on May 27, 1949 in Wichita Falls. They were blessed with a life together for 63 years.
Polly was a charter member and past president of the Junior League of Wichita Falls, a founding member and past president of the Wichita Falls Museum and Art Center, and a long-time Board member of the Wichita County Heritage Society. She served her church, Floral Heights United Methodist, in many capacities through the years, including Sunday school teacher, Administrative Board, Worship Committee, and Board of Trustees. Other affiliations include Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club, Cotillion Club, and Unity III.
Pollyís inner beauty came from her faith in Jesus Christ. It shone through her selfless, faithful service and unconditional love to her family and friends. She is in Heaven now with her beloved husband Frank, her parents Walter and Eleanor Robbins, her sister Rosie Wilson, and her grandson Jonathan Stewart. Her family left here on earth will deeply miss her until their joyous reunion someday. The surviving family members are her son, Richard Jones and wife Barbara of McKinney, TX, daughter, Nancy Craft and husband David of Wichita Falls, her beloved grandchildren Jennifer Harmeling and husband John and their children John, Ella Chappell, and Thomas Franklin of Charlotte, NC, Sarah Jones of Brooklyn, NY, and Matthew Jones of McKinney, TX. Other survivors are her nephew Rob Wilson and wife Linda of Wichita Falls and her niece Lynn Cockrell and husband John of Fort Worth and their children Chris and Sherry Burkard (son Clay and daughter Ali) of Magnolia, TX, and John and Lee Cockrell (son Graham) of Fort Worth.
The family would like to thank the medical community and health care workers at Rolling Meadows, Home Instead Senior Care, and Hospice of Wichita Falls for the compassionate, loving care they gave Polly.
