Dimitra Arakelian, 84, of Wichita Falls, passed away on Tuesday, September 11, 2018.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14 at Lunnís. The funeral mass will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2018, at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church with interment to follow at Crestview Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Dimitra was born on March 30, 1934, in Evia, Greece. She completed her high school education, and upon completion moved to Uruguay, where she married John Arakelian on February 26, 1967, in Montevideo, Uruguay. They came to the United States in 1971. Dimitra spent many years as a homemaker, seamstress and chef, until December 2002 when she became the co-owner and chef of Salt & Pepper Mediterranean Bistro. She loved cooking for her loyal customers, until retiring in 2014 to concentrate on being YiaYia, grandmother, to her grandchildren John and Demi.
Dimitra is preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents, Evangelina and Anastasio Dimou; her brother, John Dimou; and her nephew, Taso Dimou.
She is survived by her three sons, Gus Arakelian and RaeAnn Griffin of Plano, TX; Tasso and Shannon Arakelian of Wichita Falls, TX; and George and Tiffiny Arakelian of Murphy, TX; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Anna Dimou and their sons, Thimios and Pete Dimou of Plano, TX; three sisters, Mana, Vasiliki and Elnida of Greece; sister-in-law, Maria Balian of Montevideo; a nephew, Hagop Balian and his son, Sebastian of Wichita Falls; and most of all she loved her grandchildren, Demi Arakelian, John Arakelian and Dustyn Pledges.
The family would like to thank the great staff and nurses at Hospice of Wichita Falls and all of the staff at Advance Rehab and Healthcare.
