Leroy A. Whitley
August 2, 1929 - June 2, 2017

Leroy A. Whitley went to be with Jesus on June 2, 2017 at the age of 87. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Monday, June 5, 2017 in Lunn’s Colonial Chapel with Chaplain Starkovitch Forster officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery under the direction of Lunn’s Colonial Funeral Home.

Leroy was born in Lockhart, Texas August 2, 1929 to Odis and Anita (Duesterheft) Whitley. He moved to Kingsville, Texas where he worked at Celanese for 31 years, retiring as a Shift Supervisor. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Geraldine Whitley, his parents and his sister Violet Glossup. He is survived by Jill King and her husband Kyle; son, Lee Whitley; grandson, Caleb Denney and his wife Sarah; granddaughter, Rachel Anderson and her husband Marcus and grandson, Benjamin Denney. Leroy also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Khai and Hannah.
He also leaves behind great-grandchildren Khai, Kapri, Hannah and Kyleigh, whom he adored; his brother, Andy Whitley and wife Maria and sister Gladys Strecker. In addition, he left behind the world’s best caregivers Candice Montague, Rose Gonzales, Wilma Avalos and Brigitte Flores.

Leroy had such a kind and gentle heart. He had all the qualities of a ‘good, good father.” His children never had a difficult time understanding the love of a Savior because of the love Leroy demonstrated to them. His greatest joy in this life besides family was golf. He retired to Kerrville and played golf every day, then frequently practiced putting in the evening. When the grandchildren were younger and visited him, he enjoyed taking them on rides in his golf cart around the neighborhood. He missed Kerrville but understood why he was living in Wichita Falls, which was to be with family during his later years as he needed help living with Parkinson’s Disease.

The family will be at the funeral home Sunday evening from 6-7 PM, for visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heritage Church, Hospice of Wichita Falls or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
