Mary Ruth Whitmire, 91, passed away on June 8, 2017 in Wichita Falls. A Graveside service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, June 12, 2017 in Crestview Cemetery with Dr. Ike Butterworth officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

Mary Ruth was born December 6, 1925 in Memphis, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. David Lowry Johnson. She met Jimmie M. Whitmire, Sr. at North Texas University. Ruthie attended Baylor, North Texas and Weatherford College where she received a degree in voice. She taught school in Weatherford and substituted and taught second grade at Crockett.

Ruthie loved children. She was a member of the Cotillion and Colony Club. She was also a member of the Junior League and was recently honored. She belonged to the Wichita Falls Country Club, two Bridge Clubs, and the Senior-Junior Forum. She loved traveling with her grandchildren and many special friends.

After moving to Wichita Falls she sang in the follies and shows put on by the Senior-Junior. Ruthie was affectionately known as LuLu to her four grandchildren. Her family was the most important part of her life.

Ruthie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jimmie Whitmire, Sr., two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her daughter Wendy Moran and son Jimmie, Jr. and wife Sherry Whitmire; five grandchildren; Mia Moran McDaniel, Zac Moran, Amy Ketner, Adam Whitmire and Shane Steele and ten great grandchildren.

The family would also like to thank the staffs of Hospice of Wichita Falls and Rolling Meadows/Gables for all the love and care given to Ruthie.
