John Mark Mitchell, 80, passed away on June 12, 2017 in Wichita Falls. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Goodrich officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
John was born on May 10, 1936 to Dr. Ronald and Margaret Mitchell in Glasgow, Montana. The family moved to Wichita Falls in 1937 where his father was the founder of the Dental Department of the Clinics of Wichita Falls. John attended Ben Franklin, Zundy Jr. High, and Wichita Falls High School where he graduated in 1954. He attended North Texas State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree. Then, he attended the University of Minnesota, College of Dentistry, where he obtained a Doctor of Dental Surgery.
John married Margaret Fincher, of Wichita Falls, in 1961. He then was employed by the US Air Force as a dentist at Sheppard Air Force Base. After 11 years of private practice in Wichita Falls, John accepted a dental position with the Veteranís Administration and worked for 30 years. For his services, he was recognized with the prestigious ďHeart to HandsĒ award.
Johnís greatest loves were his family and friends. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed the excitement of fly fishing, duck and dove hunting, and found much pleasure in gardening. He was a member of the 100 Club, the First United Methodist Church, and served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
John is survived by his wife, Margaret, his three children, Mark Mitchell and wife Deidre, Amy Billeiter and husband Todd, and Beth Lutz and husband Steve; his sister, Susan Mitchell Reagan; his grandchildren, Sean Mitchell, Ryan Mitchell, Hannah Watson, Brock Billeiter; his two nieces, Meg Reagan Campbell and Emily Reagan and many special friends.
The family will be at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6-7 PM, for visitation.
