Nelson Eugene Tubbs, 71, of Wichita Falls, Texas, died on Sunday, June 25, 2017.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2017, in the chapel of Lunnís Colonial Funeral Home with Father Peter Kavanaugh officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Rosemont Cemetery. A rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017, followed by a visitation at 7:00 p.m. at Lunnís.
A son of the late Delphia Burke and Eugene William Tubbs, Nelson was born on August 23, 1945, in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
Nelson attended McCallie Preparatory School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and graduated from The University of Tennessee in 1967, where he was member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. A decorated Vietnam veteran, Nelson served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1973, receiving a Bronze Star for his service. He married Becky O'Donnell on June 8, 1973, in Belleville, Illinois. Upon honorable discharge from the Army, Nelson worked for the Army & Air Force Exchange Services until 1981.
In 1982, Nelson established Century 21 Gold Coat Realtors in Wichita Falls, Texas and served as the Broker/Owner until his passing. He also operated the USA Real Estate School of North Texas. Nelson was a member of St. Benedict Orthodox Church, David Gibbs VFW, Maskat Shrine, National Association of Realtors, Texas Association of Realtors, Wichita Falls Association of Realtors, and Century 21 National Brokers Communication Congress. He was the President of the Parish Council of St. Benedict Orthodox, a Past President of Wichita Falls Association of Realtors, Past President University Kiwanis Club, Past President of Region 2 of the Texas Association of Realtors, and a recipient of WFAR Relator of the Year Award.
Nelson was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Becky Tubbs; children, Sarah Gilchrist and her husband Brian Gilchrist, Katie Hein and her husband Josh Hein, and Nathaniel Tubbs and his wife Elizabeth Tubbs; one grandchild Ronan Gilchrist; brother, James Collins Tubbs and his wife Carole Tubbs; nephew, James C. Tubbs, Jr. and his wife Angie Tubbs, niece, Mary Catherine Tubbs and her husband Kevin Stordal, great niece Madeline Tubbs, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
