Shelby Leonard Martin, 66, died on Monday, July 31, 2017.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday August 5, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Holliday, Texas, with Rev. Darryl Sewell officiating, Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Apache, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home in Wichita Falls, TX. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 7:00 until 8:00 pm on Friday, August 4, 2017, at Lunn's.

Shelby was born on June 8, 1951, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Dora (Smith) and Floyd Leonard Martin. He attended school in Apache, Oklahoma and then served in the United States Army with an honorable discharge in 1976.

In 1977 he received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma. He received a degree from the Herbert V. Prochnow Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin in 1983.

He began his banking career in 1978 at Citizens Bank in Lawton, Oklahoma as the Operations Officer, where he and Toya met. In 1980 he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas and worked for Mbank Wichita Falls Southwest as Vice-President and Controller. Shelby and Toya moved to Dallas in 1987 where he worked for Premier Bank, N.A. Dallas, Texas, as Executive Vice-President. In 1990 Shelby went to work for Swiss Avenue State Bank Dallas, Texas, as Senior Vice President of Operations until 1999 when the bank sold. At that time, they decided to move back to Wichita Falls, Texas, where he worked for State National Bank of Texas as Executive Vice-President until his retirement in 2013.

Shelby enjoyed many hobbies including water and snow skiing, riding four wheelers, hang gliding, scuba diving, cave diving and power parachuting. His most recent passion was riding his Harley across the U.S. He was a simple man who enjoyed spending quality time with his family. He was a great cook, historian and navigator. One of his greatest joys in life was watching his OU Sooners whoop up on the Texas Longhorns.

Shelby was preceded in death by a brother, Sherrill Martin. He is survived by his parents Floyd and Dora Martin; wife, Toya Martin; children, Robby Martin and wife, Michelle of Piedmont, OK; Misty Patterson and husband, Marco of Double Oak, TX; and April Davis and husband, Eric of Tulsa, OK; sister, Shelia Fountain of Lawton, OK; grandchildren; Jhanee Schuermann and husband, Denton; Mason Patterson, Mia Patterson, Madison Patterson; Taylor Woodall and wife Brinlee and Mackenzie Killion and husband, Joshua; and great-grandchildren, Waylon and Baker Schuermann and Grace Woodall.
