Jimmie Kerr Stodghill, 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 29, 2018, in Wichita Falls.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at First Christian Church with Rev. Rene Hoke and Dr. David B. Hartman officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, 4441 Southwest Parkway, under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00 until 7:00 on Tuesday at Lunn’s.

Jimmie was born in Wichita Falls on April 26, 1930, the third child of Clifford Vernon and Carrie Kerr Stodghill. In 1947 he graduated from Wichita Falls High School and two years later from Hardin Junior College. He then moved to Austin, where he completed his BBA in Accounting from the University of Texas in 1951.

On January 26, 1952, Jimmie married Patsy Joan Graves of Wichita Falls. The two would stay married 66 years until his passing. Additionally, he completed his CPA exams in 1952, becoming the youngest ever certified public accountant in Texas at that time. Jimmie then served two years in the U.S. Army, after which he transitioned to a civil service position with the U.S. Air Force. He remained at Sheppard Air Force Base from 1955 to 1987. Jimmie spent the next seven years working in the private sector until his retirement in 1994. He immediately opened a furniture store, which he continued to operate until February of this year.

Mr. Stodghill’s passions, beyond Longhorn and Coyote sports, were his varied activities in the community often involving the youth of Wichita Falls. In 1939 he became a registered Boy Scout and stayed active in scouting for the duration of his life, serving in many leadership positions throughout the years. Jimmie supported his children as president of the booster clubs for WFHS football, soccer and tennis, and spent many active years as a band parent. In the fall of 1977, Jimmie helped found the Greater Wichita Falls Soccer Association, spending many years coaching and refereeing the sport. Along with his wife, Joan, he led “Concern”, a local crisis hotline for the community, from 1983 to 2003. Jimmie was a lifelong member of First Christian Church, where he worshipped and served as an Elder.

Mr. Stodghill was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Vernon and Carrie Kerr Stodghill, as well as his brother, Lt. Colonel Clifford Alexander Stodghill and sister, Helen Welty.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Joan Stodghill; his children, Pamela Elaine Day and Kevin Burross; Cheryl Ann Smiley and husband, Billy; Jimmie K. Stodghill Jr., and John Arthur Stodghill and wife, Wendy. Jimmie also leaves 8 grandchildren, Kristin Robinette, Kelly Pappas, Kate Simpson, Nick Pappas, Wyatt Simpson, Makenzie Day, Leighton Stodghill and Marlowe Stodghill; and 5 great-grandchildren.

For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Jimmie’s name to First Christian Church, 3701 Taft Blvd. Wichita Falls, TX 76308.
