Justin David Maywald was born to David and Beth Maywald on January 21, 1991 at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls and went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 30, 2018 after a tragic car accident.
Justin, with his infectious smile, was a giant teddy-bear filled with love for his family, friends and pets. He was baptized at Colonial Baptist Church where he was active in the youth department. He attended school at Kate Haynes Elementary, City View Jr/Sr High School and was a 2009 graduate of Hirschi High School.
As a child he played soccer, baseball, Top of Texas Football and bowled in a youth league. His love of sports continued into high school where he played football, soccer, baseball, golf and he became a certified scuba diver. During college he discovered a love for Rugby.
He was very active in the Hirschi Jr. ROTC program where he served as a cadet, Drill Sergeant and Executive Officer. He was the recipient of many honors, including the Superior Cadet Award.
Justin attended Cameron University for two years on a National ROTC Scholarship. He was in the US Army Reserves and completed the US Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia.
Justin graduated with a bachelorís degree in Criminal Justice from Midwestern State University where he was named Criminal Justice Student of the Year. He minored in history and was able to study abroad in London where he acquired new friends and a dream of someday living in Europe.
Justin lived in Austin, Texas this past year where he made many new friends. Justin enjoyed painting, music, working out at the gym, hanging out with his friends and family, and hunting or shooting with his dad.
He was a caring and loving soul who was loved by many and touched many lives in his short life.
Justin was preceded in death by his Grandad, Don Shaffer and his Grandpa, Joe Maywald, as well as, his great-grandparents Walter and Myrtis Self and Martin Ackermann.
Survivors include his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, James and Kaitlyn Maywald, and his precious ďpotatoesĒ, Sabian, Zildjian and Pearl Maywald, his Mimi, Beverly Shaffer and Grandma, Peggy Maywald, all of Wichita Falls. Also, uncles and aunt Brent and Carrie Shaffer of Weston, CT and Barry Shaffer of Austin and his cherished cousin John Walter Shaffer. He is also survived by numerous great aunts and uncles, second cousins, adopted aunts and uncles and his honorary cousins, Jake, Jenna, Jolie and Josh Beam, Cord and Nikki Rice, Rori Marcotte and a wealth of cherished friends.
A family visitation will be held at Lunnís Colonial Funeral Home from 6:00-7:00PM on Thursday, May 3rd. Funeral services will be in the Lunnís Colonial Chapel at 3:00 PM on Friday, May 4th. Burial will be at Crestview Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a Veteranís Charity of your choice.
